Ohio Youth Development's mission is to end systemic racism and classism by providing youth with afterschool programs that give children of color and children living in poverty access to activities that develop their talents and teaches life-skills.
Ohio Youth Development (OYD) was structured as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in August 2014. Founders Janine Lovelace and Cheryl Hython begin providing youth services in 2013 in Steubenville Ohio, partnering with the local North 6th Street Church, who served as OYD's fiscal organization, and Urban Mission to offer community youth tutoring, activities, and healthy-cooking. In the summer of 2015, we continued to provide healthy cooking activities in Columbus, Ohio at Schiller Recreation Center. Today we are partnering with First Communities Property Management. Our partner's support has afforded us to provide school-age children living in Columbus, Ohio's underserved communities, with afterschool and summer programming for school-age children.
